【中国之星新闻网芝加哥报道】New to the 18th Annual Korean Festival is “Chowdown in Korea Town.” The world’s top-ranked competitive eater, Sonya “The Black Widow” Thomas, will take on her fiercest rival and rising Major League Eating star, Miki Sudo, at the Chowdown in Korea Town World Kimchi Eating Championship on Sunday, August 11, at 5:00PM.
Food Trucks, Traditional Korean, Fusion and even Chicago’s finest Filipino La Isla cuisines will be found at this year’s Fest. Get your Galbi, Bulgogi, Ddeokbukki, Tempura, Kimchi, Kabobs, Lumpia, Ice Cream, Smoothies and all the Popular Korean beverages.

The Opening Ceremony invites everyone to recognize dignitaries, elected officials and to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Armistice of the Korean War. The ceremony takes place on Saturday the 10th at 3:00 p.m. Jesse White & the Tumblers will perform right after the ceremony.
Also, is the Kimchi Making Workshop where you will receive instruction on how to make your own batch of Kimchi and take it home too. The festival entertains with its popular traditional and contemporary Korean musical and dance performances on and off stage.
Events include the ever popular Singing Contest (sign up on site Sat 5pm). You can also partake in the Ssireum Tournament (Traditional Korean Wrestling), 5K Race (sign up on site Sun 8am Main Stage), the Bboy Battle and enjoy Kpop dance performances by local Chicagoans.
This year, KFEST has booked the triple-threat Lydia Paek. The singer, song-writer and dancer is flying in from Korea to perform for the City. Additionally, the gorgeous Youtube sensation JReyez will be showcasing his hip-hop act. They will be on the Main Stage on Sunday evening.
KFEST brings in local merchandise vendors such as beauty supplies and Korean memorabilia for purchase. In addition, newly-elect Maine Township School Board Member Jin Lee will showcase his personal collection of Korean War artifacts to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Armistice of the War.
